For more than 50 years, the International Agency Research on Cancer Fellowship Program has trained over 600 selected early-career scientists from around the world. The call for application for this Fellowship in 2021-2023 is now open, and only early-career scientists from low-middle income countries are eligible to apply.
The International Agency Research on Cancer Fellowship has contributed since its beginning to the development of a human resource for cancer research as well as cancer control around the world, and that is by training, early-career scientists in fields of the Agency’s expertise.
Fellowship Duration:
The fellowship program is for a period of two years and is tenable at the International Agency Research on Cancer in Lyon, France.
Requirements:
- Applicants need to be from Low-Middle Income Countries (according to the World Bank Classification list).
- Applicants must have finished their doctoral studies within 5 years of the closing date for application, or in the final year of their doctoral degree and will get it by the starting of their fellowship.
- Candidates must have a good level of English, it must be sufficient for scientific communication.
- Candidate who are already been at the IARC as a postdoctoral scientist or doctoral student, or those who are currently at the Agency as fully-funded postdoctoral scientists aren’t eligible for this fellowship.

- In some cases, candidates from LMIC countries can apply for and IARC return grant of a maximum of €10,000 in the second year of their fellowship to start up an independent research program related to IARC’s activities upon return to their home countries.
Research Priorities:
Candidates must prepare their research topics in line with:
1- Evolving cancer risk factors and populations in transition;
2- Implementation research;
3- Economic and societal impacts of cancer;
4- Cancer and COVID-19.
