Laval University is a public research university founded in 1663 and is affiliated with CARL, AUFC, AUCC, IAU, CBIE, CEI and UArctic. The institution began as a university and was first settled by François De Montmorency-Laval who was the first Catholic priest of New France.
Reviously, the university used to be referred to as Séminaire de Québec. The university has been constructed with the objective of forming and teaching those priests that may be able to help New France. The University later enlarged its educational facilities to include the liberal arts.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the university introduced the theology, law, medicine, science, social sciences and forestry departments. A research dissertation was also added to the program of studies. The economics and political and social sciences divisions was opened in 1938 and have grown to become renowned departments of the university.
The university includes over 60 academic units, departments, institutes and colleges, and has 500 programs in all academic disciplines. The University has a combined student population of around 43,000 students, as well as 7,000 international students. The university campus has more than 9,600 full-time and part-time staff, among them 3,045 members of personnel.

The Citizen of the World Scholarship at Laval University in Canada is available for international students.
The grant makes it possible to follow masters, postgraduate, undergraduate and graduate programs in all subjects offered at Laval University.

Scholarship Benefits:
- Merit Fellowship: The “Global Citizens” Merit Fellowship is offered to international students applying for the summer 2021, autumn 2021 or winter 2022 semester. The goal of the award is to encourage and promote Academic Achievement.
- Professional Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs: Scholarships range from $10,000 to $15,000 for two installments.
- Research Masters with both graduate and PhD degree programs:Research Masters with dissertation programs: Full cost of $20,000, which is $5,000 each semester, for four semesters. PhD: Full cost of $30,000, which is $5,000 each semester, for six semesters.
- Engagement Fellowship: The Global Citizens of the World Engagement Scholarship is designed for international students applying for the 2021 summer or 2021 autumn semester in a normal master’s or doctoral program at Laval University;
- The goal of this scholarship program is to encourage the development of young, successful university students that show exceptional engagement and commitment, in different disciplines, and are a source of inspiration to their community.
- Master’s: A total worth for the program is $20,000, which is $5,000 each semester;
- PhD: A total worth for the program is $30,000, which is $5,000 each semester.
Eligibility requirements:
Applicants must have a final or qualified acceptance offered at Laval University for the scholarship to be accepted. Students that are on the waiting list will not be accepted as admissible.
