Rotary Global Grant Scholarships are prestigious scholarships awarded by Rotary International to outstanding students from all over the world who are interested in pursuing graduate-level studies abroad.
The scholarships are aimed at promoting peace and cultural understanding, and supporting graduate studies related to the areas of focus of Rotary International, which include basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, peacebuilding and conflict resolution, and economic and community development.
The scholarship provides funding for tuition and fees, room and board, transportation, and other educational and living expenses for up to two years of graduate study. The amount of funding varies depending on the cost of living in the host country and the length of the program. In order to qualify for the Rotary Global Grant Scholarship, candidates need to be endorsed by a nearby Rotary club or district, and possess fluency in the language spoken in the country where they will be studying, and have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. They must also demonstrate a commitment to Rotary’s mission of service and have a plan for using their education to make a positive impact in their communities and around the world.
To qualify for a global grant, the budget must be at least $30,000, and the maximum World Fund award that can be received is $400,000. Grant sponsors have the flexibility to fund the Rotary Global Grant Scholarship using a variety of sources such as cash, District Designated Funds (DDF), directed gifts, and endowment earnings. The Foundation offers an 80 percent World Fund match for all DDF contributions, with no minimum World Fund match required.
Eligibility:
Before applying for a global grant, the district or club in the country where the activity is taking place, as well as the international partner district or club, must first become qualified. It is important to learn about the qualification process and grant management. Your club and district Rotary Foundation chairs can assist you in planning how to utilize your District Designated Funds and in understanding how to qualify your club.

To ensure a strong project plan and successful global grant application, it is recommended to consult with local experts during the planning process. The district resource network is available to provide assistance.
Your application must meet certain criteria to be approved, including sustainability plans for long-term success beyond the use of global grant funds, measurable goals, alignment with one of Rotary’s areas of focus, addressing actual community needs, engaging both Rotary and community members, and fulfilling the eligibility requirements listed in the grant’s terms and conditions.
Applications are reviewed throughout the year, and it is important to note that for scholars beginning their studies in August, September, or October, sponsoring clubs and districts must submit their applications to the Rotary Foundation by June 30.
