Ingredients
-
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste concentrate
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1½ teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 (15-ounce) can water (use the empty tomato sauce can)
Instructions
- In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef for 5 minutes. Drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.
- Add the tomato paste and minced garlic, cooking for 1 minute. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Fill the empty tomato sauce can with water and pour it into the sauce. Stir to combine. Reduce the heat to low, partially cover the pot, and simmer for 45-50 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
- Serve over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta, topped with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley or basil.
