Instructions
- Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk, egg, and vanilla extract, mixing until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll Out the Dough:
- Punch down the dough and divide into four equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a thin rectangle (about 12×8 inches).
- Spread softened butter over the surface.
- Shape the Cruffins:
- Roll the dough tightly from the long edge to form a log.
- Slice the log in half lengthwise to expose the layers.
- Roll each strip into a spiral and place into a greased muffin tin.
- Second Rise:
- Cover and let rise for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake:
- Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
