Description

A cruffin is the perfect hybrid of a croissant and a muffin—flaky, buttery, and beautifully layered. These homemade cruffins are surprisingly easy to make and can be customized with cinnamon sugar, jam, Nutella, or even a savory filling! Baked to golden perfection in a muffin tin, they make a delightful breakfast, brunch, or sweet treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Assembly:

    • 4 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
    • ½ cup cinnamon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  • Make the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
    • Add warm milk, egg, and vanilla extract, mixing until a rough dough forms.
  • Knead the Dough:
    • Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Roll Out the Dough:
    • Punch down the dough and divide into four equal pieces.
    • Roll each piece into a thin rectangle (about 12×8 inches).
    • Spread softened butter over the surface.
  • Shape the Cruffins:
    • Roll the dough tightly from the long edge to form a log.
    • Slice the log in half lengthwise to expose the layers.
    • Roll each strip into a spiral and place into a greased muffin tin.
  • Second Rise:
    • Cover and let rise for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake:
    • Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  • Final Touches:
    • Brush with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar, or dust with powdered sugar.
  • Serve & Enjoy:
    • Serve warm and enjoy with coffee, tea, or fresh fruit!
