Description

There’s something irresistible about a plate of crispy, golden fries fresh out of the oven. But when you swap regular potatoes for sweet potatoes, you get a dish that’s not only flavorful but also packed with nutrients. Sweet potato fries offer the perfect balance of natural sweetness and savory spices, with a crispy texture that makes them hard to resist. Whether served as a side dish, snack, or appetizer, these fries are a deliciously wholesome alternative to traditional French fries.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled (optional) and cut into fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked paprika optional for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon cornstarch for extra crispiness

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the sweet potatoes into evenly sized fries to ensure even cooking.
  • Coat with Seasoning: In a large bowl, toss the sweet potato fries with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. If using cornstarch, sprinkle it over the fries and toss again to coat evenly.
  • Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they don’t overlap to allow for maximum crispiness.
  • Bake to Perfection: Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the fries and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • To achieve maximum crispiness, avoid overcrowding the baking sheet—spread the fries out evenly.
  • Soaking the cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes before baking helps remove excess starch for a crispier texture. Just be sure to pat them completely dry before seasoning.
  • If you prefer an air-fried version, cook at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • For added flavor, experiment with seasonings like cayenne pepper, parmesan cheese, or a drizzle of honey before serving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes to restore crispiness.
