Description

These crispy and creamy Sausage Wonton Cups are the perfect bite-sized appetizer for any occasion. Made with savory sausage, melted cheese, and a crunchy wonton shell, they deliver the perfect balance of flavors and textures. Whether you’re hosting a party, preparing a game-day snack, or just craving something delicious, these wonton cups are easy to make and absolutely irresistible!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork breakfast sausage
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • Pinch of ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 ¼ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese, divided
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray
  • Optional garnish: chopped green onions or parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart as it browns. Add cumin and cayenne for extra flavor.
  • Mix in the cheeses by reducing the heat to low and stirring in the cream cheese and 1 cup of shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese until smooth. Remove from heat.
  • Prepare the wonton cups by lightly spraying a mini muffin tin with cooking spray. Press a wonton wrapper into each cup, ensuring it forms a small bowl shape. Lightly spray the wrappers to help them crisp up.
  • Fill each wonton cup with the sausage and cheese mixture, then sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top.
  • Bake for 10 minutes or until the wontons are golden brown and crispy.
  • Let cool slightly, then garnish with chopped green onions or parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the sausage filling up to 2 days in advance and store it in the fridge until ready to use.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
  • Freezing Tip: Freeze the baked wonton cups in a single layer, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container. Reheat at 375°F until warmed through.
  • Customization: Try swapping out the sausage for chorizo, adding diced jalapeños for a spicy kick, or using different cheeses for a unique twist.
