Description

This Savory Sesame Beef Rice Bowl is a perfect combination of bold umami flavors, tender ground beef, and fragrant sesame-garlic sauce, served over a bed of warm rice. Quick to prepare and packed with rich flavors, it’s a go-to meal for busy weeknights or satisfying cravings. Customize it with vegetables, a fried egg, or your favorite toppings for a restaurant-quality dish at home!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for optimal flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free option)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine, basmati, or brown rice)

Optional Toppings & Additions:

  • Sesame seeds, sliced cucumber, kimchi, or pickled vegetables
  • Bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, or spinach for extra vegetables
  • A fried egg on top for added richness

Instructions

  • Cook the Aromatics – Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Brown the Beef – Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Season the Beef – Pour in the soy sauce (or tamari) and mix well, ensuring the beef is evenly coated. Add salt, pepper, and chopped green onions. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  • Assemble the Bowl – Serve the beef over a bed of warm cooked rice. Garnish with additional green onions and optional toppings like sesame seeds, cucumber slices, or kimchi.
  • Customize & Serve – Enhance the dish with sautéed vegetables or a fried egg for an extra layer of flavor and texture.

Notes

  • If you prefer a sweeter flavor, add ½ teaspoon of honey or brown sugar to the sauce.
  • To make it spicy, mix in red pepper flakes, sriracha, or chili paste.
  • This dish pairs well with a side of steamed vegetables or miso soup for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
