Description

This French Onion Bliss Chicken is a rich, savory dish inspired by the classic flavors of French onion soup. Juicy, seasoned chicken breasts are simmered in a flavorful broth with caramelized onions and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. It’s an easy, one-pan meal that delivers gourmet taste with minimal effort—perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions!

Ingredients

  • 6 (4-ounce) chicken breasts
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons light butter (made with canola oil)
  • 1 small yellow onion, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 (10-ounce) can of French onion soup
  • ½ cup reduced-fat mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat & Season: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Season the chicken breasts with paprika, garlic powder, and salt.
  • Sear the Chicken: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken breasts and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Caramelize the Onions: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened and golden.
  • Simmer in Broth: Pour the French onion soup over the chicken and onions, letting it simmer for about 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  • Bake to Perfection: Transfer everything to a baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Cheesy Finish: Remove the foil, sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the chicken, and bake uncovered for another 5-7 minutes until melted and bubbly.
  • Serve & Enjoy: Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving. Pair it with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or balsamic vinegar to the soup before baking.
  • If using bone-in chicken, adjust the cooking time by adding 10-15 extra minutes.
  • Swap mozzarella for Swiss or Gruyère cheese for a more authentic French onion soup taste.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
