Description

This Easy German Spaghetti is a cozy, creamy pasta dish with a twist of traditional German flair. Combining tender noodles with smoky bacon, sautéed onions, and a rich, slightly tangy cream sauce, it’s a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner that brings comfort and bold flavor to the table!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz spaghetti or your favorite pasta
  • 4 slices of thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or crème fraîche
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (preferably German-style)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan or Emmental cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  • Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Reserve 1/4 cup pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add onions and sauté until translucent. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Lower the heat and stir in sour cream, heavy cream, mustard, and nutmeg (if using). Mix well.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat, adding reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.
  • Stir in the crispy bacon, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1–2 minutes more.
  • Serve warm, garnished with chopped parsley and grated cheese if desired.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, skip the bacon or replace it with smoked tofu or mushrooms.
  • Add sautéed cabbage or spinach for extra veggies.
  • Use crème fraîche for an authentic German touch.
