Description

Swedish Meatballs with Creamy Gravy is a classic dish featuring tender meatballs made from a mix of ground beef and pork, served with a rich and creamy gravy. Perfect over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For the gravy:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, onion, garlic powder, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and egg. Mix until well combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, cooking until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Add the heavy cream and soy sauce, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet, coating them in the gravy. Simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes until heated through.
  7. Serve the meatballs warm, drizzled with gravy, over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for the beef and pork.
  • Add a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy for extra flavor.
