Description

This Scallion Chicken is a quick and flavorful dish that combines tender chicken with aromatic scallions in a savory, slightly sweet sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, this dish is cooked in under 30 minutes and pairs beautifully with steamed rice or noodles. The balance of garlic, ginger, and soy sauce gives it an irresistible umami punch!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast (cut into thin strips)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  •
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup scallions, sliced into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

    • Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken strips with salt, pepper, and cornstarch, tossing to coat evenly.

    • Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.

    • Sauté Aromatics: In the same pan, add garlic, ginger, and scallions. Stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.

    • Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and water. Pour the sauce into the pan and stir well.

    • Combine & Cook: Return the chicken to the pan, tossing everything together. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken evenly.

    • Serve: Transfer to a plate and enjoy hot with rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in soy sauce for 15 minutes before cooking.
