Description

This Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty, comforting dish with tender hamburger steaks smothered in a rich, savory gravy and baked to perfection. Simple ingredients, easy prep, and mouthwatering flavors make this a family favorite!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dried parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

    • Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish lightly with oil or butter.

    • Prepare Patties: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and form into oval-shaped patties.

    • Sear Patties: Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly sear the patties on both sides until browned (about 2-3 minutes per side). Transfer them to the baking dish.

    • Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt butter, add flour, and whisk until smooth. Gradually pour in beef broth and milk, stirring continuously. Add the cream of mushroom soup and mushrooms, then cook until slightly thickened.

    • Bake: Pour the gravy over the hamburger steaks in the baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

    • Finish & Serve: Remove foil, bake for an additional 10 minutes, then garnish with dried parsley. Serve warm with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of soy sauce to the gravy.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Serve with a side of roasted vegetables or a fresh green salad.
