Description

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting and hearty dish featuring ground beef patties baked with a creamy mushroom sauce and topped with cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent and the mushrooms are tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into oval patties and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth. Pour this mixture over the patties in the baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the cheese is bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
  • Add your favorite vegetables, such as bell peppers or zucchini, to the beef mixture for extra flavor and nutrition.
