Description
A flavorful and easy recipe for Thai Basil Tofu Stir-Fry, perfect for a quick meal.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1–2 Thai bird chilies, sliced (adjust for spice preference)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (or vegetarian oyster sauce)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
- Cooked jasmine rice, for serving
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes and add it to the skillet. Cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the onion and garlic. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the sliced bell pepper and green beans to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the tofu to the skillet. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the skillet from heat and fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves until just wilted.
- Serve the stir-fry over cooked jasmine rice.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase the number of Thai bird chilies or add a splash of sriracha.
- You can also substitute the tofu with tempeh for a different texture and flavor.
