Description

A delicious and easy-to-make Banana Cream Pie that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large ripe bananas, sliced
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, ⅓ cup sugar, and melted butter. Mix until well combined.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
  4. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, ¾ cup sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat. Gradually whisk a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks, then return the egg mixture to the saucepan. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Let cool slightly.
  7. Layer half of the banana slices in the cooled pie crust. Pour half of the custard over the bananas, then add the remaining banana slices and top with the remaining custard.
  8. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
  9. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  10. Spread the whipped cream over the top of the pie before serving.

Notes

  • For a chocolate twist, add ¼ cup of cocoa powder to the custard mixture.
  • For a nutty flavor, sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans on top of the whipped cream before serving.
