Description

Bacon Bourbon Meatball Subs are a delicious and hearty sandwich made with flavorful meatballs infused with bourbon and topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, chopped
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, chopped bacon, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.
  5. While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the bourbon and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Once the meatballs are done, add them to the saucepan with the marinara sauce and gently coat them.
  7. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through. Place the rolls on a baking sheet.
  8. Spoon the meatball and sauce mixture into each hoagie roll, then top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  9. Bake the assembled subs in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the meatball mixture for a spicy kick.
  • Try using different types of cheese, such as provolone or cheddar, for a unique twist on the classic meatball sub.
