Gates Cambridge Scholarships for International Students 2020/21

Studying in the University of Cambridge is almost a dream for many students. It is ranked among the top five universities in the world, first in the Times University Guide 2020 and first in the Guardian University Guide 2020. It is one of UK’s most oldest and famous universities.

Cambridge is known by it diversity and offers services and support for international students who seek to continue their academic studies there. About 1,300 international students from all over the world are currently registered at the university of Cambridge.

The Cambridge university offers the “Gates Cambridge Scholarships” for outstanding international students to continue a full-time postgraduate degree at the University.

Scholarship Details:

  • Applications open: 1 SEPT 2020
  • Deadline: either 14 Oct/3 Dec 2020 or 7 Jan 2021 (annual).

Scholarship Description:

The highly competitive Gates Cambridge Scholarships are offered to a full-time postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge in any available course in the university.

Unlike other Scholarships, these scholarships are fully funded. For the Gates Masters scholarship, the maximum duration will be 2 years, while for the Gates PhD. Grant up to 4 years.

The application is currently open for students outside of the UK and the selection is based on applicant’s qualifications, academic merit, outstanding intellectual ability and leadership potential.

Scholarship Covers:

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships cover the cost of studies as well as the following costs:

  • The composition fees at the appropriate rate
  • A maintenance allowance for one student (£ 17,500 per year at the 2020-2021 rate) – The award offered for 4 years for the PhD scholars.
  • An economy class air ticket at the start and end of the course.
  • Costs of inbound visas and cost of the health Surcharge for immigrants.
  • Between £ 500 and £ 2000 for Academic Development Funding.
  • Family allowance.
  • Fieldwork.
  • Maternity funding: if you need it, you can request to interrupt your studies for up to 6 months and continue to receive your maintenance allowance during this period.
  • Hardship Funding: For unexpected difficulties.

Eligibility:

In order to apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a citizen outside the UK.
  • Apply for one of these full-time residential programs: PhD, MSc or MLitt or a one year postgraduate course.
  • If you already study at Cambridge university, you can apply for a new postgraduate course and benefit from the Gates Cambridge Scholarship if still didn’t start a course.

How to apply:

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship applications are made via the University’s Graduate Applicant Portal. You should first submit an application for graduate admission, a College place and funding.

You will also need to the following materials:

  • A statement of 3,000 characters about why you have chosen the Cambridge university and your fit with the Gates Cambridge program.
  • A (non-academic) reference about their fit with Gates Cambridge.
  • Other materials such as CV/resume.
  • A research proposal is required for Ph.D. applicants.
