Description

Curried Ground Beef with Peas is a quick and flavorful dish that combines ground beef with aromatic spices and peas, perfect for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice preference)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice or naan (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Sprinkle the curry powder, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and red pepper flakes over the beef mixture. Stir well to coat the meat with the spices and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to release any browned bits. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Add the frozen peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the curried ground beef over cooked rice or with naan, garnished with fresh cilantro.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or plant-based ground meat. Adjust cooking times accordingly.
  • Add diced potatoes or carrots for extra vegetables and texture; just cook them with the onions until tender before adding the beef.
