Ingredients

  • 6 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup sour cream

Method

  1. Cook the Noodles
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Brown the Beef
  4. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  5. Make the Roux
  6. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until lightly golden.
  7. Create the Sauce
  8. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens (about 3-5 minutes).
  9. Combine Everything
  10. Add the cooked ground beef back into the sauce and mix well. Let simmer for another 2 minutes.
  11. Finish with Sour Cream
  12. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream until smooth and well combined.
  13. Toss & Serve
  14. Add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet and toss until evenly coated in the creamy beef sauce. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

    • For a richer sauce, use half-and-half instead of milk.
    • Want extra flavor? Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a pinch of smoked paprika.
    • For a lighter version, swap ground beef for ground turkey and use low-fat milk.
    • Leftovers? Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop with a splash of milk or broth to maintain creaminess.
    • Make it gluten-free by using gluten-free pasta and cornstarch instead of flour for thickening.
