Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs or drumsticks
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce light or regular
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce optional, for color
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar or lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes optional, for spice
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions optional, for garnish

Method

  1. Prepare the Marinade
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, dark soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, black pepper, rice vinegar, and chili flakes (if using).
  3. Marinate the Chicken
  4. Place the chicken thighs or drumsticks in a resealable bag or shallow dish.
  5. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring it’s fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2–4 hours for deeper flavor.
  6. Preheat the Air Fryer
  7. Set the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let it preheat for 3–5 minutes.
  8. Cook the Chicken
  9. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Reserve the leftover marinade for basting.
  10. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through and brushing with the reserved marinade.
  11. Check for Doneness
  12. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  13. Garnish and Serve
  14. Transfer the chicken to a plate, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve hot.

Notes

    • Marinating Time: For the best flavor, marinate the chicken for a few hours or overnight.
    • Cooking Tip: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking. Cook in batches if necessary.
    • Serving Suggestions: Pair with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or noodles for a complete meal.
    • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 3–5 minutes.
