  • 4 medium Russet Potatoes sliced thinly
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese sharp cheddar recommended
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup or homemade sauce
  • 1/2 cup Milk or Heavy Cream
  • 1 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Paprika to taste
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil or Butter for greasing
Optional Toppings
  • 1/2 cup Crumbled Bacon for added crunch
  • 1/4 cup Green Onions chopped
  • 1 cup Sour Cream for serving

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil or butter.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Then drain excess grease and stir in minced garlic and seasonings.
  3. Peel the russet potatoes if desired and slice them thinly, approximately 1/8 inch thick.
  4. In the greased baking dish, add a layer of sliced potatoes, then spoon half of the beef mixture and sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top. Repeat the layers.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  6. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm.
