Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Steam broccoli florets in the microwave with water for 5 minutes or on the stovetop using a steamer basket.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F and grease an 11x7 inch baking dish.
  3. Sauté leeks and shallots in olive oil over medium-high heat for 8 to 10 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for another 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Add dry white wine and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in all-purpose flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in whole milk and let mixture simmer for 4 to 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in sharp white cheddar cheese until melted, then fold in steamed broccoli florets.
  6. Mix remaining olive oil with panko breadcrumbs and sprinkle over the casserole.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
