Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties, pressing a small indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing while cooking.
Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
Cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
Add cheese slices in the last minute of cooking, if using.
