- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper.
- Arrange approximately 40 saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, stir in 1 cup of packed light brown sugar and bring to a boil for 3 minutes.
- Pour the toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers, spreading it with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the toffee. Allow to soften for 2-3 minutes.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee layer with a spatula, adding any optional toppings you desire.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until fully set.
- Lift the solidified Christmas Crack from the baking sheet and break or cut into bite-sized pieces.
