Step-by-Step Instructions for Simple Fruit Crumble
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C/Gas 6) and prepare a greased deep baking dish measuring approximately 27 × 23cm.
  2. Layer 1 kg of frozen fruit in the baking dish, followed by 2 chopped Granny Smith apples.
  3. Sprinkle 4 tablespoons of caster sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground mixed spice, lemon zest, and drizzle with 2 teaspoons of vanilla bean paste.
  4. In a bowl, combine 150g of cold, diced butter, 4 tablespoons of caster sugar, and 150g of plain flour until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Add 80g of rolled oats.
  5. Spread the crumble mixture over the fruit layer, ensuring all fruit is covered and lightly press down.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving with custard or ice cream.
