Ingredients
Method
1. Cook the Bacon:
- Place a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Lay the bacon strips on the skillet and press them with a bacon press or heavy object to keep them flat.
- Cook for about 5 minutes on one side, flip, and cook for another 3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the cooked bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
2. Toast the Bread:
- Place the bread slices on the same skillet and toast them in the bacon fat over medium-low heat. Swirl occasionally for even browning.
- Toast one side, flip, and repeat until both sides are golden and crisp.
3. Assemble the Sandwich:
- Spread mayonnaise evenly over one side of each bread slice.
- Layer shredded lettuce on both slices of bread.
- Place the tomato slices on one slice, then sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Break the bacon slices in half and layer them over the tomato, alternating their orientation for stability.
4. Serve:
- Close the sandwich by placing the second bread slice on top.
- Slice diagonally and serve immediately for the freshest taste.
Notes
- Bacon Tip: Use naturally cured thick-cut bacon for a rich, smoky flavor.
- Bread Choice: High-quality bread like shokupan, sourdough, or artisanal white bread enhances the overall taste.
- Tomato Selection: Opt for ripe, juicy tomatoes for the best flavor. Season generously with salt and pepper to bring out their natural sweetness.
- Add-Ons: Customize your sandwich with extras like avocado, fried egg, or arugula for a unique twist.
- Make-Ahead Tip: Cook the bacon in advance and reheat in the skillet for a quicker assembly.
