Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather your ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a medium-sized skillet, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the finely diced yellow onion and sauté for 5-7 minutes until translucent. Stir in 2 cups of finely chopped celery and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine about 8-10 cups of cubed stale bread with the sautéed onion and celery mixture.
  4. Add in the fresh herbs: 2 tablespoons of sage and thyme, and 1 tablespoon of rosemary. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Gradually pour in about 4 cups of warm broth, gently tossing to ensure all bread is moist.
  6. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes.
