  • 1 cup Kimchi Choose well-fermented kimchi for maximum flavor.
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion Green onions can serve as a milder substitute.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Fresh garlic offers the best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Opt for fresh ginger rather than ground for superior taste.
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce Use tamari for a gluten-free alternative.
  • 1 tbsp Rice Wine Feel free to omit if you don’t have it on hand.
  • 1 large Egg Leave it out for a vegan version.
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil Neutral oil can work too if needed.
  • to taste Salt & Pepper Adjust to your taste.
Wrapping & Cooking Ingredients
  • 1 pkg Dumpling Wrappers Pre-made for convenience or homemade for a personal touch.
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil Any high smoke point oil will do!
  • 1/4 cup Cold Water Used for steaming the dumplings during cooking.
For Garnish (Optional)
  • to taste Black Sesame Seeds Sprinkled for crunch and visual appeal.
  • 2 tbsp Green Onions Chopped for a fresh finish.

Method
 

Preparation Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, well-fermented kimchi, diced yellow onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. Add soy sauce, rice wine (if using), a beaten egg, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
  3. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
  4. Take a dumpling wrapper, moisten the edges, and place a tablespoon of the filling in the center.
  5. Fold the wrapper in half, seal edges tightly, and place assembled dumplings on a parchment-lined tray.
  6. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat with a splash of vegetable oil.
  7. Pan-fry arranged dumplings until golden brown, then add 1/4 cup cold water and steam for 7-8 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and let them crisp for an additional minute before transferring to a serving plate.
  9. Optionally sprinkle with black sesame seeds and green onions before serving with dipping sauces.

Notes

Cover wrappers with a damp towel while assembling, and ensure they are sealed tightly. Cook frozen dumplings straight from the freezer with added cooking time.
