Step-by-Step Instructions for Muffuletta Sandwich
  1. Start by taking your sturdy Italian roll and carefully cutting it in half, making sure not to slice all the way through. Lay the two halves open on a clean cutting board.
  2. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil generously inside both halves of the roll, allowing it to soak in a bit for added moisture and flavor. Lightly season the insides with salt and pepper.
  3. Place your chosen ham—whether it’s capicola or smoked—on the bottom half of your roll, folding it neatly as needed to create an even layer.
  4. Next, layer on the dry-cured salami, folding the slices as necessary to fit perfectly on the ham.
  5. Now, add the provolone cheese slices on top of the salami, ensuring they cover the meat entirely.
  6. Finish your glorious sandwich by heaping about a tablespoon of olive salad onto the top layer of mozzarella.
  7. Close up the sandwich, gently pressing down to help those delectable fillings settle together. Allow the muffuletta sandwich to rest for a couple of minutes before diving in.
