Total Time 1 hour
Servings: 12 cinnamon rolls
Course: Breakfast, Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Dough:
  • 1 cup warm milk 110°F
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
For the Filling:
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
For the Glaze (Optional):
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. Activate the Yeast: Warm the milk to around 110°F. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: Add softened butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in the flour until the dough forms a sticky consistency. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Roll Out the Dough: Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 14 x 9 inches). Spread softened butter evenly over the surface.
  5. Add the Filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over the buttered dough.
  6. Roll and Slice: Roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss.
  7. Arrange and Proof: Place the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch pan. Cover and let rise for 15 minutes.
  8. Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake rolls for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Glaze: While the rolls bake, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • For a tangy twist, replace the glaze with a cream cheese frosting.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
