Step-by-Step Instructions for Salisbury Steak
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Use your hands to mix until well combined.
  2. Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape into patties, about ½ inch thick. Dent the centers slightly to prevent puffing while cooking.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned, then flip and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes.
  4. While patties are cooking, whisk together the brown gravy mix with hot water in a separate bowl until smooth.
  5. After removing cooked patties, add ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to the gravy mix. Stir to incorporate the flavors.
  6. Pour the gravy over the patties in the skillet. Let everything simmer together for about 5 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken.
