Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 85/15 or leaner
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce optional for extra umami
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch optional for thickening
  • ¼ cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional for spice
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 green onions chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds optional for garnish

Method

  1. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, beef broth, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. Cook the ground beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  3. Add garlic and ginger: Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Cook the broccoli: Add broccoli florets to the pan and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Add the sauce: Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli mixture, stirring well to coat everything. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot over rice or noodles!

Notes

  • Swap ground beef for ground chicken, turkey, or tofu for a lighter version.
  • Use frozen broccoli if fresh isn’t available—just thaw and drain before cooking.
  • Add sliced bell peppers or carrots for extra color and crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
