Ingredients
Method
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt, then gradually mix into the wet ingredients.
- Knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Filling:
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until combined.
3. Assemble the Rolls:
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly and sprinkle mini chocolate chips (if using).
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
4. Bake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
5. Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then mix in milk until the frosting reaches the desired consistency.
6. Frost and Serve:
- Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!
Notes
- For a deeper cocoa flavor, add an extra tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder to the dough.
- To prevent dryness, don’t overbake—remove from the oven as soon as the tops are lightly golden.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
- Reheat for 15 seconds in the microwave for a warm, gooey texture.
